The Buffalo Maritime Center’s replica of the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief will be docking at the Port of Newark, 199 Van Buren St. in T. Spencer Knight Park on September 30th, 2025. The Bicentennial Voyage, commemorating Governor DeWitt Clinton’s historic 1825 journey from Buffalo to New York Harbor, will take 33 days to complete. The schedule for the Port of Newark follows, but due to uncertainties of weather and voyage travel time, the schedule may be slightly adjusted on the day of the event.
September 30th:
3:00 pm: Boat arrives at port in Newark and is prepared for visitors.
3:30 pm: Welcome speeches and presentations
4pm-7pm: Tours of the boat
3pm - 7pm Visitor exhibits, paddle shaping and woodcarving activities, Newark Arcadia Historical Society and Wayne County Historical Society exhibits and conversations with local historians.

Erie Shore Landing will be open for food until 7:00 pm
Erie Shore Landing Ice Cream: open until 8:30 pm
Big Ditch Brewery is traveling with the boat will be selling Long Haul, the official beer of the voyage.
There will also be a special Newark postal cancellation station.

After the stop in Newark, the Seneca Chief will be in Lyons on October 1st and Clyde on October 2nd.
